GO UNDERGROUND: PRAGUE HOMELESS TOURS

Michaela

Tour with homeless in PragueIf you want to have really exceptional experience in Prague and would be interested in learning more about the lives of homeless people, take a very unusual guided tour with a (former) homeless person who knows Prague and especially its dark sides better than any of us.

Pragulic is a small social company that employs nine guides who all have their own experience with living on the street. Each of them ended up on the street for a different reason. These guides know exactly where the best places to sleep are, where to find food for free, where to do your hygiene or even where is the best spot to sell your own body …

Our guide was Karim and we can say now that he managed to change our outlook on our beloved city of Prague. We met the guide in front of the Main Train Station where he started the tour by asking us a simple question – how can someone become homeless? Our first sheepish feeling from his very intense look soon disappeared, his character and very intriguing guiding pulled us into “the game“ immediately.

We walked through the streets of the city center where thousands of locals and tourists walk every single day. Karim told us things an ordinary person can hardly believe. He also gave us a deeper insight into the life of homeless people – how difficult it is to find a real friend and how rivalry makes the life even more difficult on the streets. We soon understood that this kind of life is nothing but a daily fight for survival. We were also told a bit from his own story as he is very open and keen to pass his “know-how” about Prague's underworld on to anyone who is interested.

The tour really fascinated us even though most of the things we heard were obviously not very pleasant. It really makes you realize how easy it is to become homeless and how difficult it is to go back to normal life. We can guarantee that everyone who takes this tour will cherish the word HOME more than ever before. The tour is also offered in English (the guide is accompanied by an interpreter), and it is perfect for anyone visiting Prague for the second or third time!
